After everything that has happened with my guitars and this morning maybe christmas mariacles do happen. The guitar thing I dont really feel like getting in to because it is a terribly long story and only ends well for me and no one else really understands it. As for this morning.....well fucking get this. I was told I can take friday and next tuesday off?? WITH PAY EVEN!!!!! I am going to be allowed to take vacation!!!!!!!!!!!! Regardless of this mariacle I will note that perrogrande, it is 2007 and you still owe me a plague of locusts in june. we made an agreement when I sold you my sould
Now the grim reality of this is that I will probably still be paged, but here is to hoping. Now it really wouldnt be a complete journal entry from me if I didnt cry about something. After all in the words of perrogrande, I am a "Big girl"
So today's rant is that WHY THE HELL ARE INFASTRUCTURE PEOPLE BLAMED FOR EVERYTHING. Now before I get flooded with lectures about the fact that I am an enterprise level engineer even posing this question in the first place. I know the answer to my question, this is my journal fuck you I will rant about what I want. This whole thing is spurred on my a mountain of coincidence and not one of those "Have you seen my mole hill?? i swear I left it over there by that mountain of yours" I was regaled this morning of a tale from a friend how somebody's DBA cant seem to understands what sort of requirements are needed to run their own god damn databases. Who was blamed?? Infastructure, who got told to have it fixed by last week?? Infastructure. Is it their fault or even problem?? Is it the unix engineer's fault or problem?? No something tells me that the network runs as flawlessly as allowed and the unix platforms are as tight as can be. The simple matter of it is the DBA's cant even wrap their mind around what they need to support their shitty apps.
Now what does this have to do with me?? Simple, this afternoon after hearing this story I get called into my boss's office. I will note that he looks very healthy so he must be feeling much better. He is blaming me and my engineering group because the Systems Engineer's servers keep corrupting the Exchange server database. This is my fault. My network and my team's network is obviously responsible for this. Let me give you another piece of the puzzle. Our SE team?? THEY ARE GOD DAMNED MORONS. If you read through more these entries you will see that I am not exagerating. So I spent my afternoon fixing this problem. It is definitely fixed now connectivity is running much better after the server rebuild and things are running much more smoothly as far as those servers are concerned. Since this was so crucial it fell on my frail little shoulders to fix it.
Would you like to know what my magic fix was?? Nothing, I went out to lunch, I smoke a few cigarettes and I watched a movie. I am the david fucking copperfield of network engineering. I managed to take "Dog and Pony Show" and "Smoke and Mirrors" to all new heights. You're welcome
Oh and my executive management's response?? "Thank you for finally getting around to fixing this"
..............if you look real close you will see that they rebuilt the server this morning....SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH it's a secret

The Devil will burst from my lungs!
Yeah so I have an INCREDIBLY bad case of heartburn today. I was fine till right about the time i went to walk into the office. I ran home to grab some pepcid (couldnt hit the gas staion because i forgot my wallet) it has helped a little but damn, I dont know what caused this and it sucks. Who knows, maybe I am having that elusive heartattack I keep hearing so much about =P

Well I have transcended to my true form as an engineer. I overheard the support folks here at my client site say that the internet seemed to be down. The first thing that popped in my mind? "Oh, time for a smoke break" BAM RIGHT OUT THE DOOR. I have now reached my top level form as an engineer

Calm before the storm
24 hours from now this project started in April will be done. I will either be extremley relieved or have pulled all my hair out. =P
In other news I played the crap out of my new guitar tonight whilst "chillin" with folks online. It was all instrumental pieces for some reason, I guess I was just in one of those moods. However, I am self conscious so I am not going to share. Goodnight internets!

Well,
I stepped out to go see about working my knee out a bit before soccer practice tomorrow and it seems that one of the chassis for my very nice cleats has a stripped stud mount. This has me pretty pissed off seeing as for what these cost they should not be falling apart like this. Especially since these boots have seen maybe about 6 hours of playing time. Well I have written to adidas to see what they have to say about this.

I hate computers
So I have been having issues with my computer for a month or so. It keeps locking up freezing or generally flipping out now and then. It isnt a heat issue with my CPU I have dispelled that thoery. I figured my system drive was failing because it would generally only happen when I was interacting with it in some way or another. Well yesterday while working on some linux scripts for RO I started noticing that anything GFX wise would slam my computer and it would die. At first I thought it was limited to RO. But I fired up oblivion around 3am and it played just fine. However the minute I tried to close it my computer crashed hardcore. So I assumed I might be looking at a video issue. Well after I was done working on linux this morning I departed from my laptop and sat down to look at my desktop. I reached under my desk to see if I could feel roughly how fast the CPU fan on my card was spinning and I got the ever living SHIT burnt out of my finger. A little confused i crawled under my desk for a closer look. WELL LOW AND BEHOLD THE FAN TO MY GFX CARD IS SITTING ON TOP OF MY SOUND CARD. Not the whole apparatus mind you but just the fan blade. Mystery solved.... Well unfortunately right at that moment POOF my card smokes. So here I am $175 later with an ATI x1600 PRO it isnt top of the line but it is a little better then my old card and it will tide me over till I have to make the jump to PCIe. As I said....I hate computers. Back to sendmail!!!

Alright, who broke it
Holy god apparently the internet exploded all over itself today later this afternoon. See today could have been the day when all our stupid callers could have actually been right when they call in and say "The internet is down". Usually if seem like they arent mad I respond with "Huh, the whole thing eh??" Well today they were actually frickin right. Everyone of the major tier 3 providers was having issues. www.internetpulse.com looked like a frickin christmas tree for god's sake. Luckily it seems to be sorting itself out as of about 8pm. But man did that cause some severe issues this evening.

Adaptive Security?? Buzz word??
Ok cisco's new security platform the ASA (Adaptive Security Appliance) I have just dug into one of these pretty hardcore today since i had a small ammount of downtime inbetween meetings. Normally seeing the word adaptive spinning around the network world I tend to roll my eyes at it and dimiss it as a buzz word for marketing. I dunno, these things however I think I have to admitt have earned their title of "adaptive" it basically manages to combine everything that the PIX was with everything the VPN3000 concetrators had. Talk about a catchall firewall and security device. Right now I am pretty neck deep in their WebVPN (ssl vpn) configuration and it is pretty slick. Obviously they have eliminated the nasty hairpinning issues that the pix firewall appliance had. Also they seem to have built in direct AAA support for NT servers and NT domains....does this mean phasing out radius for a non TACACS platform?? I guess we'll have to see. Oh well, back to my fun...
